Noun

Definitions:

A noun is a person, place, thing or idea.

Examples:

Person: John Smith

Place: Washington, DC

Thing: a door

Idea: happiness

Subject

Most sentences contain a subject.  

The subject tells the listener or reader where the action is going.

The subject always comes before the verb.

The subject is the person, place, thing or idea that is doing the action.

1. Students(subject) read(verb).

2. Dogs(subject) bark(verb).

ObjectObjects are followed by the verb in the sentence. It is the noun that is receiving the action.

1. Students read books(object).

2. Dogs bark at people(object).
