Definition:

The subject is the person, place, place, thing or idea that’s doing the action. Subject pronouns are simply subjects put in pronoun form.

Subject Pronouns:

I, you, he, she, it, we, they

Examples:

He likes running on the street.

He is the subject/pronoun. Likes is the verb. Street is the object.

Exercise

Exercise 1: Rewrite the following sentences using personal pronouns as the subject.

1.  John was waiting for the rain to stop. He was waiting for the rain to stop.

2.  Elizabeth has never seen the movie. ________________________________________

3.  Lewis and Clark explored America. ________________________________________

4.  Jason made everyone dinner. ________________________________________

5.  The remote was under a sofa cushion. ________________________________________

6.  My dentist told me that I didn’t need braces. I didn’t believe him. ________________________________________

Exercise 2: In the sentences below, fill in the blank with the correct subject pronouns.

1.  Kelly wants to go shopping. She needs new shoes.
