Rule: You will often see an expression of place after the auxiliary verb be and the main verb ending with -ing. An expression of place always starts with a preposition. | Examples: 1. Mike is playing at the playground. 2. Seth is sleeping on the couch. 3. Eric was studying at his desk. 4. Emily was reading on the porch. |
Sentence Structure Formula for Expressions of Place: subject + verb/verb phrase + prepositional phrase. 1. It is raining in Seattle. |
