Class 12-4: An Adjective Followed by an Infinitive

Rule:

Use an adjective followed by an infinitive in order to express the way they feel about a certain action.

Examples:

1. She is quick to move.

2. Seth is slow to learn.

3. She is scarred to go alone.

Sentence Structure Formula:

adjective + infinitive
Tom is happy to invite Susan

Exercise 1: You are Christopher Columbus and your crew is ready to turn the ships around and head back home. The sentences below are things you may say to your crew to keep them motivated. Underline the noun and infinitive phrases in each sentence below.

1.  Every attempt to turn the ship around has failed.

2.  Don’t you understand that I have a need to see the rest of the world?

3.  The king and queen have granted permission to explore.

4.  It is my wish to see land.

5.  There is a way to get around the world that we haven’t seen yet!

6.  This is a reminder to always dream!

7.  I have a goal to explore every inch of this world.

8.  I have a plan to find gold and other riches.

9.  It is my decision to keep sailing.  We will reach land soon!

10.   If there is any refusal to keep sailing, we will throw you overboard!
